things to envy about northern California

June 1, 2008

While I’m a pretty committed SoCal denizen these days, I do longingly recall some amazing spots and resources, especially in and around Berkeley, sub-category “power to the people.” Today, while contemplating spending $50 to buy or rent a set of bolt cutters to cut through the %*&@^#& lock to my storage locker whose key I lost, I had fond thoughts of the Tool Lending Library in Oakland. Would it not be awesome to ILL a drill, some weird wrench to assemble the cryptic furniture bought without instructions and guided only by an ephemeral internet document, or, really, anything at all with spikes, blades, handles, cords and moving parts?
