early morning early cinema–Les Kiriki acrobats japonaises (1907)

This was filmed in 1907, by Segundo de Chomón, one of the early Spanish cinéastes and SFX masters, who also worked on Abel Gance’s Napoléon, as well as some of the Meliès Pathé films about extra-planetary explorations.

I love how the acrobats shift their position 90 degrees, from being captured in overhead Busby Berkeley mode to facing the camera straight on.
